Manufacturer's Tools
From time to time we find useful tools on the Internet, etc. As we locate them they will be added below:
Uniform Code Council. (http://www.uc-council.org)
UCC Check Digit Calculator. Jump to this "calculator" for UPS (GTIN) sum digit coding.
Manufacturer Abbreviated Code (MAC) list (PDF)
UPC Adds Two Digits (GTIN)
What does this mean for us?The only thing this affects is our systems. Scanners and Computers must be capable to read a 14-digit bar code by January 1, 2005. The 12-digit codes do not die; systems can read 13-digit codes can also read 12-digit codes. The theory is to equip our systems to read 14 digits. This means we would not have to upgrade the systems again. All UPC’s will eventually be a 14-digit bar code (SKU with two zeros before the current number. Innerpack, case packs, and display with a number to start.).
